Class Descriptions:

Ages 18 months – 3 years

Dance with Me

Children will learn fun dance-related activities, basic dance steps, stretches and classroom etiquette in a fun, safe environment with a parent or guardian.

Dress Code- Any color leotard, pink tights, pink leather ballet shoes (ones with no strings if you can find them!)

Helpful hints for our Dance With Me class– The parent can assist with all dance moves, even carrying the dancer if she or he wants extra cuddles, or the dancer may participate more independently, dancing next to their parent.  Occasionally dancers can get upset because they are overwhelmed.  It happens to the best of us! If this occurs, it’s best to leave the room, calm down your dancer and return when he or she is feeling better.

Ages 3-4

Day at the Beach and Princess Ballerinas

These classes are for the little ones in your life who love to move and groove at home.  Dancers will learn ballet movement, coordination games, and social skills for dance, all while jamming along to their favorite music.  High energy and creativity are the focus of this class.

Day at the Beach will bring the summer fun into the dance studio!

Princess Ballerinas will allow your inner Princess to shine!

Ages 7-13

Workshop 1 (ages 7-9) & Workshop 2 (ages 10-12)

Musical Theatre 2 is an intermediate/advanced Musical Theatre offering, allowing students to further cultivate performance skills and technique.

Dress Code-  Slip on tan jazz shoes, tights, and leotard.

Fit for the Summer (ages 7-12)

During this class, dancers will work on conditioning and toning to enhance their overall fitness level.  All forms of dance require core strength and endurance, and this class will focus on learning cardio, strengthening and stretching techniques to use both in and out of class. Along with conditioning, dancers will learn technique to improve their leaps and turns!

Dress Code- Comfortable clothes and sneakers.  Sneakers must not be worn outside.

Contemporary Modern (ages 8-11)

Beginner/Intermediate Teen Classes (Ballet, Jazz, and Tap) – ages 11+

Dance is for everyone, whenever they decide to start!  Our beginner/intermediate teen classes are for those that are just getting started or maybe jumping back into dance after some time off.  These classes will focus on the fundamentals of each genre, including technique and across the floor and center combinations, all while maintaining the Joy of Dance commitment to having fun.

Dress Code- Ballet/Jazz: Pink leather ballet shoes(preferably with the elastic band around foot instead of ties) or slip on tan jazz shoes, tights, and leotard.  Tap: Comfortable clothes, black lace-up tap shoes. At this level, the lace-up taps shoes, rather than the single tie used in low levels of tap, are required for more stability in class. While a leotard is not required, tops should extend full length past the hips. This is to help extend the dancer’s line, make the class more uniform and aid the teacher when making corrections.

Boys, Ages 8-11

Ballet and Hip Hop

While boys are welcome in all of our classes, we understand that it can be hard to be in a class with mostly girls.  To help with this balance, we are offering boys ballet and hip hop classes this summer.  The classes are open to boys with or without prior dance experience that are interested in exploring either genre.  Ballet will emphasize barre work, technique and across the floor and center combinations.  Hip Hop is primarily danced to R&B music and has evolved from breaking, locking, and popping to cutting-edge choreography. Often freestyle in nature, hip-hop provides the recreational dancer with an athletic, fun, and creative workout.

Dress Code- Comfortable clothes.  Ballet- a white or black t-shirt and black sweatpants, hoes: black ballet shoes. Hip-hop- comfortable clothes and jazz sneakers (no street sneakers allowed).
