Hello, & Happy Fall!

4.jpgParking at the Studio

Over the past couple of weeks we have noticed that there is some confusion about the flow of our parking lot. When entering, please veer to the right. You can park in front of the building, on the side near the trees, and around back. When leaving, please follow the arrows and make a loop around the building. This will help with the flow of traffic, especially during high volume hours.***Please make sure to only be using the handicap spots out front if you have a handicap parking tag. We have seen a few cars sitting there waiting for dancers in class and we would like to make sure to leave those spots open for those who need them!

3.jpgCostume Deposits

A reminder that a $36 deposit per dancer per dance is due October 1st, and the remainder of $36 due on November 1st.  Please note that one pair of tights per dancer is included in the costume fee.

10.jpgWater Bottle Graveyard Is Overflowing!

We are so happy that our dancers are staying hydrated but our water bottle graveyard is too full! Please have your child check it out next time they are at the studio.

A dancer’s dress code is extremely important to the discipline of the art. We have had many students coming to class with the wrong attire and/or hair down. It is important for their training that you talk to your dancer about this and help them encourage this discipline!

Guests will enjoy a morning full of ballerina stories, dance instructions, and movement games while mom & dad enjoy a worry-free holiday morning! Joy of Dance students and new families are both welcome to attend!

When:Monday, October 14th- Columbus Day

Ages: 3-8 (must be potty-trained)

Guests are welcome to wear gowns on top of loose, comfortable clothing.

Time:10:30am-12:00pm

Cost:$15 per child

   Halloween Party!

Please mark your calendars and save to date for our Halloween Party on Saturday, October 19th from 1pm-2:30pm. Get ready to dance to the best Halloween songs, play ghoulishly fun games, and enjoy some treats! This is a FAMILY event and we encourage everyone to attend! Siblings are welcome too. There will be a $5 entrance fee per child.  Space is limited so don’t miss your spot and sign up today!

    Thriller Dance Workshop!

Get your 🎃SPOOK🎃 on at Joy of Dance on Saturday, October 19th. Attendees will channel their inner zombie by learning Michael Jackson’s classic “Thriller” dance as well as participate in fun games and activities to put them in the Halloween spirit. Join us for our “After-hours” as we will play some games, watch a movie and share snacks! Current and new students welcome to join!!

Time: Workshop 6:00-8:00pm, After-hours (optional) 8:00-10:00pm
Ages: 8+

We will be holding classes as usual on Columbus Day.  Don’t forget to attend that day!!

Just a reminder that tuition is due the 1st of the month. Monthly tuition will be posted before the 1st so that you may view the fees posted to your account. Late fees will be posted after the 10th of the month and accounts not paid by the 20th of each month will have their backup card charged.  Also, when paying by check, please remember to write the month on the memo line of your check, along with anything else that might be included (costumes, t-shirt orders, ballet shoes, etc).

The Wingman for Dance program inspires empathy, compassion, kindness and most importantly, acceptance of all children regardless of any perceived differences. In September, our Wingman Leaders implemented activities in classes that centered around getting to know our peers. We are so humbled by how well these activities went. We look forward to seeing how #wingman4dance continues to impact our studio and brings us closer together.

2.jpgFREE Trial week!

From Monday, October 14th to Saturday, October 19th, new and current dancers can try a new class.  This is the perfect time to check out a new class such as but not limited to, Lyrical, Tap, Hip Hop, Modern, or any of our Teen classes. Try one or try them all for free this week! Bring a friend with you to class too and share the JOY of dance with them.  All open classes are eligible for a free trial class for new or current students. Please check out the registration page to see what classes still have space. Classes that say Register next to them are open to trying. Current students do not need to register. New student registration will open online on Saturday, October 12th. Please add the code TRIAL2019 in the comments sections when registering. 

Contest Alert!

Anyone who attends a trial class in a style he or she is not currently taking, is eligible for our raffle to win a *MONTH of dance ON US! Just fill out a raffle ticket every time you come take a class for the chance to win.  For an extra chance, bring a friend and you get an extra entry!

*The month is for one class only.

Halloween parties will go from Wednesday, October 23rd to Tuesday, October 29th. Everyone should come in costume with his or her dance clothes underneath.  We will be doing fun dance games during class and also handing out candy.  If you or your child have any allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know so we can have options for everyone. Candy made in a peanut/tree nut free facility will be available.  IMPORTANT-All dancers must wait until after they leave the studio before opening any candy.  

Wednesday 10/30 and Thursday 10/31 classes– we are having out parties on 10/23 and 10/24  in order for everyone to join in on the fun as many will be trick-or-treating those nights.  Please fill out this 1 minute survey to let us know if you will be attending classes on those dates. If we have enough planning to attend, we will still run classes. The survey closes 10/15.

Birthday Parties!

Joy of Dance offers fun, energetic and creative birthday parties! Everyone will have a great time at your child’s party and the best part is that you won’t have to lift a finger.  You can find more information on birthday parties on our website.

    Customer Survey

Help us get to know you better! Mid-October we will be sending out a customer survey for you to tell us what you would like to see at the studio. New classes, events, or relevant ideas are all welcome. Please keep an eye out an email in the next few weeks!

23.jpgStudent Choreography Showcase

Any student in a class for ages 8 and up can start signing up for their showcase piece! Showcase pieces allow dance students to choreograph themselves or with other dancers for Recital.  This is a wonderful opportunity for dancers to showcase their creative side along with their love of dance.  Interested dancers must have song approval before starting his or her choreography.  The checklist is listed below. Copied below is a list of FAQ’s regarding the Showcase. Student Choreography pieces will have their own showcase before the Sunday Recital. In order to make this show free for audience members to attend, there will be a small performance fee for the dancers.   Auditions will take place in March.  If you are unable to make the audition day, we will figure out another arrangement before the audition date.  We will be sending out more information on the Student Choreography Showcase within the next couple of weeks, but you can view some FAQs listed below.

FAQ’s for our Student Choreography Showcase

What is the Student Choreography Showcase?  Dancers in a class for ages 8 and up can put together a piece by themselves or with a friend to be performed in the showcase.

When are pieces performed? The Student Choreography Showcase will take place before the Sunday Recital.

Do I have to purchase tickets to attend the Showcase? No, we want as many people as possible to have the opportunity to attend the Showcase!

Why is there a Performance fee?  Because we are not requiring audience members to purchase tickets to the showcase, there is a performance fee of $20 per dancer.  This fee will cover the cost of hiring the staff at the school and our staff from Joy of Dance to put on the show as well as the rental fee without requiring audience members to purchase tickets for the showcase.

How can my dancer sign up? Miss Lindsey needs to approve of all songs before dancers start choreographing.  There is a signup sheet on her desk.

Can I do more than one piece?  All dancers are only allowed one solo.  They may also join one other group or duo piece.  The performance fee is per dancer, per dance

Why does my dancer have to audition?  The reason we are holding auditions is to make sure all choreography, music and costume ideas are completed at the time of the audition.  Before holding the auditions, we were constantly chasing dancers to complete all steps by the deadline, which isn’t fun for anyone! By holding an audition, dancers must show responsibility by being required to have everything completed by that date or they will not have their piece in the Showcase.  This will help them to take the Showcase seriously and abide by all deadlines.  As long as the dancer auditions with cut music, choreography written down, a costume idea and a polished piece(it’s ok if you forget a few steps!), he or she will have a spot in the showcase.  Dances thrown together carelessly, last minute or missing any requirements will not make it into the Showcase.

Checklist

1. The song needs to be approved by Miss Lindsey.

2. The dance MUST be under 2 minutes.

3. The written choreography is to be handed in.

4. The completed piece is to be performed at the audition.

5. Costumes need to planned out, but not purchased until April.

NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE
