Inclement Weather

As we are approaching snow season, we want to remind everyone how to know about any inclement weather cancellations. Most of the time if school is closed, the studio will be closed as well. In case of closure, we will post to the website (please hover over the home tab to see the Cancellation tab), Facebook and send out an e-mail roughly 2 hours before the start of class. We will not be in the studio to answer phone calls so please check these three places first. Please note, per our policies, Joy of Dance is not responsible for cancellations due to bad weather, however, students are always welcome to make up any missed classes at another time.  Just send us an email so we don’t have too many makeups on the same night.

Boots & Slippers

Cold and bitter weather is on the horizon whether we like it or not. Please remember to take off your mucky boots when entering the studio. We understand feet get cold in the winter. We have had some parents/siblings bring slippers into the studio to wear while they wait in the reception area.

Costume Deposits

As previously mentioned, costume deposits have been posted on your account.  If you haven’t done so already, please log in to see the fees and make sure they are correct.



We are excited to announce that Recital will be held at Dover High School this year!  After some great feedback from last year’s recital, we are changing up the format this year. We will have our younger dancers in classes for 18 months to 7 years performance on Saturday, June 9th as well as our team/troupe dancers and some of our advanced classes.  Dancers in classes for ages 8 and up will perform on Sunday.  The Student Choreography Showcase will take place on Sunday as well.  The list of classes in which show on Saturday can be found on the website at the bottom of the Schedule tab.

We will be holding Tech Rehearsals this year instead of a Dress Rehearsal for each show.  Every class will get 10 minutes on stage.  This will allow more time to stage the dances for spacing before they run them.  If there is time, they should be able to run each dance twice.  This new format will help dancers be better prepared for the Recital! Tech rehearsals will full hair, makeup, and costume rehearsals and will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 5th and 6th.  I will have the list in order by May 1st if not sooner.

Dancers do not pay a recital fee, only the costume fee.  Audience members are required to buy a ticket in order to watch the recital. Younger siblings(ages 2 and under) who will be sitting on parents’ laps do not need a ticket, but if you are using a seat, then you will need a ticket, due to fire code safety.   Ticket fees pay for the rental of the recital space and school employees along with other fees associated with putting together our fabulous annual recital!

Joy of Dance Clothing Order 

We are putting together a clothing order that will be sent by the end of the week and due by November 10th.  The order will be ready in December before we go on break for the holidays.  All orders are placed online through a link that we will send out in the email.

Acts of Kindness: Food Drive

Next time you go grocery shopping, why not pick up a couple items for those in need this holiday season? We will have a food drive drop off in the studio for the month of Novmeber that will be going directly to the Lee Church Congregational & The Barrington Food Pantry. Items needed include (but not limited to): baked beans, snack crackers, canned fruit and vegetables, stuffing, pie crust mix, instant oatmeal, etc. For every item brought in, you can enter to win a Joy of Dance reusable grocery tote! Please see the front desk receptionist to fill out your tickets. Drawing will be held 12/1!

You’re invited to Princess Ballerina Storytime!

Guests will enjoy a morning full of ballerina stories, dance instructions, and movement games while mom & dad enjoy a worry-free holiday morning! Joy of Dance students and new families are both welcome to attend!

When: Monday, November 12th- Veteran’s Day (Observed)

Ages: 3-8 (must be potty-trained)

Guests are welcome to wear gowns on top of loose, comfortable clothing.


Cost:$10 per child

Thanksgiving Break 

The studio will be closed for normal classes during our Thanksgiving Break from Monday, November 19th to Sunday, November 25th. We hope everyone is able to enjoy time with their families and loved ones!

Throughout the month of December, current and new students may try out a class for $10 for the ENTIRE MONTH! Add more here!

Manchester Monarchs Dance Clinic

The Manchester Monarchs will be hosting their first dance clinic run by the SNHU Dance Team! The SNHU Dance Team will provide dance instruction and a fun learning experience on Saturday, December 1st for ages 8-18This clinic is open to all dancers and will be a great opportunity to learn from the SNHU Dance Team dancers, and experience dancing for a college dance team. The routine that is learned during this clinic will be performed during the Monarchs game that night!

The Clinic will run from 12 pm – 5pm.

12:00-12:30 – Check-in and T-shirt pick-up

12:30-1:00 – Welcome and Team Chat

1:00-1:30 – Warm-Up

1:30-2:30 – Choreography

2:30-3:30 – Lunch

3:30-5:00 – Choreography and Performance Preparation!

Tickets for the participating dancers will be $30.

Lunch during the Clinic- they will provide pizza and water

Your ticket to the Monarchs Game!

Family/Friends will need to purchase a $10 ticketto attend the Monarchs game for the performance.

The SNHU Dance Clinic is open to all dancers ages 8 to 18, and will be separated in two age groups:

·         8 to 12

·         13 to 18

*Dancers should wear black dance pants. Also please wear dance shoes or dance sneakers. They will be wearing the provided t-shirt to perform.

For Family and Friends, the doors to the arena open at 5pm and puck-drop is at 6pm. Depending on the dancer’s age will determine their performance time. First Intermission; age group 8-12, Second Intermission; age group 13-18.

Makeup Classes:

As stated in our attendance policies, if a dancer misses a class for any reason, he or she is welcome to make up that class at a different time. It is much easier to make up classes in the fall as we have not started our Recital pieces yet. Classes for ages 3- to 7-year-olds have an opposite class on a different day that you may attend. If there is not an opposite class, another class offered closest to your age group can be taken instead. Please check with the studio manager via email before making up any classes. The Nutcracker

We will be doing our annual trip to see the Nutcracker at the Rochester Opera House on Sunday, December 10th at 2:00pm.  Tickets are $26 for Adults and $22 for Students/Seniors, however, we usually have enough people to get a group discount.  Please let me know by November 19th. Once I hear from everyone, I will let you know the final price.  We have several dancers performing this year and I would love to get a big group together to cheer them on!
