This is a long but very important newsletter filled with recital and registration information for next the dance season. Please make sure to read through thoroughly!

Important: Recital Tab on Website

We are working on providing a mobile-friendly version of the website, hopefully, this summer.  However, until then it is easiest to get to the Recital page from a desktop or tablet.  If you are on a smartphone, you will need to turn your phone horizontal in order click on the Recital tab.  Once there, you can find the link to the REcital Handbook at the top with other important links listed further down the page.

May/June Tuition

As stated in our policies, tuition is calculated by taking the number of weeks in the dance year for an annual rate, then dividing that into equal monthly payments September-April with a one and a half payment for May/June.  All accounts must be up to date before May 20th in order to start purchasing Recital Tickets. The Recital video download is new this year.  In previous years, we were unable to provide the DVD quality we’d like to and a digital download will provide the high quality we are striving towards while also making the video more accessible and affordable.  The fee for the digital download is just $8 and a link for all 4 shows will be emailed to you that you can view and download to your computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.  You can still purchase a physical copy of the DVD if you’d like for $22 (discounted $8 for the digital fee already paid) for one show and $5 per each additional show.

Recital Info

Recital is closing in very fast. You can find all the recital information currently available on the website under the recital tab. It would be greatly appreciated if you read through all information before e-mailing us with any questions.  I also recommend printing the sheets out and highlighting the parts that pertain to you.  I know it is a lot of information!

Closed for Memorial Day weekend!

We will NOT be holding classes on Memorial Day weekend this year, Saturday 5/26 and Monday(Memorial Day) 5/28. We WILL be holding class on Friday 5/25

Picture Day

Picture Day is May 19th. The schedule of the day will be posted to the recital tab soon. There you will also find pricing information along with the order form on the website. You may print the form from the website, or pick one up at the studio to fill out beforehand to bring with you on Picture Day. Forms will be on my desk when they become available.

Recital Tickets

On May 23rd at 12:00 pm, you will be able to purchase recital tickets from the comfort of our own home or office through Dance Recital Ticketing! Please see the ticket info sheet on the website for more information.

Back Stage Moms

The sign-up sheets for backstage moms will be up at the studio this week. Sorry Dads, but no boys are allowed in the band room! BSM will get to watch their dancer perform from the audience in a reserved section set aside for them. Please read through the Back Stage Mom advice to get a clear understanding of what is required when signing up.

Volunteer Opportunities 

I’m working on a list of volunteers that I will need for Recital that I will be sending out later this week.  Please let me know if you are available to help! Remember, volunteers do not need to purchase tickets to Recital, but will get to see their dancer perform.

Makeup classes

There are only a couple more weeks to get in make-up classes in if you want the perfect attendance award. Makeup classes are allowed until Friday, May 25th. No makeups will be allowed the last week of classes or on May 19th for Picture Day. You will need to log into your portal to see how many classes your dancer needs to make up.

Dad/Sweetheart Dance

Registration for our on-stage performance closes May 10th. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to share the spotlight with your dancer. Please see our website for more details!


Performance Team and Hip Hop Troupe Placement Auditions (Has been updated)

The goal of our Performance Teams and Hip Hop Troupes is to provide outside performance opportunities for dancers in order to further their dance education and performance skills, as well as supporting our community.  It also allows students to spend more time in the studio working on technique and performance quality. All Team members must be enrolled in a ballet and jazz class(Workshop classes for ages 10 and up) and all Troupe members must be enrolled in a hip hop class.

On Thursday, June 7th, we are holding placement auditions for all dancers wanting to join Team and/or Troupe next year.  This will help us to place dancers on the team that will allow them the most growth.  Dancers will be critiqued on performance skills and proper technique, as well as their dance etiquette throughout the year. This includes but is not limited to- listening skills, behavior, response to constructive criticism, and work ethic.  It is recommended (but not required) dancers have at least two years experience in ballet for Team (except Minis and Squirts) and at least two years of hip hop for Troupe to be considered for placement.

*If you can not attend this audition, you must let us know ASAP so we can schedule an alternative time for your audition.

Audition times are listed below by age group.  Dancers should attend the age group they will be by September.  Minis who are 5 by January are still invited to attend the meeting.  If your dance is at the top of his/her age group, be prepared that he/she may be asked to stay and audition with the next age group up.  Please note that audition groups are split into smaller age groups than Teams/Troupes and therefore the group you audition with does not mean that is the group you will be on Team/Troupe with. Dancers will receive placements in the few days following Recital.


Date: Thursday, June 7th.

Ages 5-6- 4:30-5:00- This time is a stress-free meeting for our youngest dancers and parents, not an audition.

Ages 7-8- 5:00-5:30

Ages 9-10: 5:30-6:15

Ages 10 & up for Hip Hop Troupe- 6:15-7:00

Ages 11-13: 7:00-7:45

Ages 14 & up- 7:45-8:30

Summer Dance

Can’t go 3 months without dance? Neither can we! Registration for Summer Dance is now open through our website. We are offering new classes this summer for beginners through advanced dancers for ages 3 to Adult in the following disciplines-  Dance With Me, Princess Ballerinas, Day at the Beach, Circus Jazz, At the Zoo Ballet/Tap, Hip Hop Grooves, Fit for the Summer, Barre Fitness Contemporary Modern, Lyrical, Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Pointe, and Adult classes in Ballet/Jazz, Tap, Modern and Hip Hop.

There is no registration fee for Summer Dance classes. Tuition is due upon registration in order to hold your spot in the class. You may choose to pay a non-refundable $25 deposit to hold your spot. Please indicate in the comments section if this is your choice. If no comment is left, you will be charged the full tuition amount at the time of registration.

Dress Code Update-

Next year the dress code for all jazz classes will be tan, slip-on(no tie) leather jazz shoes.  If you currently have black ones, you do not need to replace them just yet.  Once you grow out of them or when Recital 2019 comes around, you will need to have tan jazz shoes.

All Pre-Ballet/Tap dancers will need velcro shoes instead of ones that tie. Same as the jazz shoes, you can replace these as your dancer grows out of them.

Registration for the 2018-2019 dance year 

Just a reminder that registration for next year open Tuesday, May 8th! Classes can fill up fast, so don’t miss your chance to get in your favorite classes. Annual registration is $25 per student before July 1st($50 for a family) and $35 after July 1st($70 for a family).

Referral Program

We offer a referral program!  We love to hear when you recommend our studio to friends and family members.  It is greatly appreciated and we want to reward you for it! Make sure to let your friend or family know to write your name in the referral box upon registration.  Once the dancer has been in class for three months, we will apply the $25 credit to BOTH accounts as a thank you.  Credits will be applied for new family accounts, not for individual dancers.

Come join us at our FREE OPEN HOUSE for fun, food and a free trial class for ages 3-7! Meet our faculty, tour the studio, and find out why dancers at Joy of Dance are considered family! We will be happy to talk about summer and fall classes with you.

Crazy Hair Week!

This year we are doing a fun week of crazy hair styles the last week of classes from May 29th through June 4th.  Please make sure hair is still properly secured and pulled out of the dancer’s face.  I’m excited to see what our dancers will come up with!
