Hello to both our new and returning families! We look forward to welcoming all the new students into the Joy of Dance family and reuniting with our returning students when classes start on Saturday, September 7th.
I know this seems like a long newsletter, but it’s only about 3 minutes to read through quickly because of all the helpful headlines!

Parents’ and Students’ Handbook
Our handbook is a great tool to help keep information easy to find, all in one place. If you haven’t already read through it, please do so at your earliest convenience. You can find it under the About tab on our website or a hard copy can be available upon request. This is the best reference for any questions you might have. If you are unable to find the answer to your question after looking through the Handbook, feel free to contact us at email@example.com and we would be happy to assist you.

Email is how we communicate all of our important messages to you. To ensure you are receiving our emails, please add jackrabbittech.com to your safe list. You can also view all our sent messages through your portal when you log in. We recommend checking there if you find you haven’t been receiving monthly emails from us.
Do I Need To Wait In The Reception Area?
We ask parents/guardians of students under the age of 6 to please wait in the reception area during their child’s class. This is to ensure if any accident or problem arises, the student will have a caretaker there immediately. Parents of children ages 6-9 should let their child know if they will be leaving the studio during class time to make sure he or she is comfortable with that.
ALL Parents Need To Enter The Studio The First Week Of Classes
Please review a provided hardcopy of our Agreement Policies that you signed off on when you registered and take a copy for your records. After you have read them, print and sign your name on the provided spreadsheets in the studio located on the office desk wall. This is to ensure all families have acknowledged our policies and will abide by them. They can also be found any time on our website!
Are You Paying Tuition By Check?
If you are paying September’s tuition by check, please send it via mail this week or call us to find out when we will be at the studio this week! As payments are collected by the 10th of the month, we want to make sure everyone is accounted for since we won’t see many of you until after Setpmebr 10th when a late fee will be assed on all accounts with a balance.
Missed Classes and Makeups
If you know ahead of time that you are going to be absent from class, we would love an e-mail so we won’t worry. Missed classes can be made up with office permission anytime until the end of May, and even proactively when there is advance notice. You can keep track of absences through your parent portal.
Perfect Attendance Update
Starting this year will no longer be implementing perfect attendance. We have received feedback from our families that their time is limited and it’s not always easy to make it to the same class on a different day. We also do not want to add stress to those who are sick or have prior family obligations. Dancers are still encouraged to make up missed classes to prevent falling behind in technique and choreography. There will still be many other ways dancers can be recognized throughout the year!
For questions about appropriate/required class attire, please refer to the Dress Code section of the Handbook. Please refer to this guide frequently.
Water bottles should be considered part of your dancer’s dress code to ensure hydration throughout the class. Please make sure students come to class prepared!
Private lessons are available to any student who would like extra work outside of regular classes. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.

Performing at the Lee Town Fair and the Barrington Village Festival
Our 2019-2020 performance teams and hip hop troupes will be performing at the Lee Town Fair this Saturday 9/7 at 1:30 pm at the soccer field of Little River Park. We are then heading to Calef’s to perform at the Barrington Village Festival near the big tent at 2:30pm. We would LOVE to see some familiar faces out in the crowd cheering us on.
Auditions for The Nutcracker 2019 will take place on Saturday, September 7th at the Sole City Dance Studios. **If you are a team or troupe dancer, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to audition earlier in the day on Saturday or Friday night due to our conflicting performances.**
Audition times are as follows:
12:30-1:30 – Girls & Boys (Ages: 7-9)
1:30-1:45 – Mandatory meeting for parents of 7-9 and 10 & 11 year olds
1:45-2:45 – Girls & Boys (Ages: 10 & 11)
2:45-4:15 – Girls 13+ who dance en pointe (**At least one full year of pointe study required & must be taking a minimum of at least 2 ballet & 2 pointe classes per week. This audition will begin in pointe shoes. Please be prepared to stay for the audition after this one as well, if asked. )
4:15-4:30 – Mandatory meeting for parents of 12-17 year olds
4:30-6:00 – Girls & Boys 12+ who DO NOT dance en pointe
Please dress appropriately (Girls: black leo & pink tights. Boys: white fitted shirt & black tights or dance pants) and arrive at least 15 minutes prior to audition or meeting time.

Family Movie Night
Among all the fun and exciting things that will be happening during the first month back, we are going to be hosting an outdoor movie night at the studio on September 20th at 6:45pm! The movie is TDB, but rest assured it will be fantastic! Please arrive between 6:15pm & 6:30pm to set up chairs and blankets, and don’t forget to bring snacks and bug spray. This is a great way for the dancers and their families to spend some quality time together outside of the studio walls!
Our parking lot can be a little tricky to maneuver. When entering, please veer to the right. You can park in front of the building, on the side near the trees, and around back. When leaving, please follow the arrows and make a loop around the building. It is a one way parking lot. This will help with the flow of traffic, especially during high volume hours.

NEW Office Hours
We understand September can be a crazy month for all families. To ease the chaos of questions you may have, we will be providing office hours during the week. Office hours will continue throughout the year but may be subject to change.
