1. Winter Photos

Would you love to have professional pictures of your kids to share with family and friends for the holidays? Well, you are in luck! We are pleased to offer Winter Photos as an option on 12/3 from 12:00-3:00 pm. These photos will be a bit different than our Recital pictures (these are done during our in-house dress rehearsal week).

What to wear: Winter Photos this year will be taken of individual dancers only. We recommend your favorite dance outfit or even a fun holiday outfit if you wish. Remember your dance shoes!

What to expect for picture options: We will take close-up pictures, and full-body dance pictures plus add in some fun winter props like snowflakes, large ornaments, candy canes, plus a snowball fight.

No sitting fees: There will not be any sitting or booking fee for these pictures.  Simply book a time, pick your package, and enjoy your photos.

Sibling pictures: Dancers may even bring siblings and choose the single photo option to take a picture together.  It’s OK if the sibling doesn’t dance, they are welcome to come anyway!

Times are set up in 15 min blocks with up to 5 dancers per slot.

 3. Inclement Weather Reminder

As we are approaching the snow season, we want to remind everyone how to know about any inclement weather cancellations. Most of the time if schools are closed, the studio will be closed as well, but not always.  Please see below how and when you will be notified.

In the case of closure, we will:

*Send out an e-mail roughly 2 hours before the start of class.

*Send a push notification on our app

If it’s more than 2 hours before classes begin, please wait to get in touch with us. Sometimes conditions change throughout the day so we like to make sure we have the most up-to-date information before making a call. We promise we will reach out!

Please note, per our policies, Joy of Dance is not responsible for cancellations due to bad weather, however, students are always welcome to make up any missed classes at another time!  Simply send us an email or text to preschedule the makeup so we don’t have too many makeups on the same night.

4. Studio Calendar and 2023/2024 Facebook Page

New this season, we are pleased to introduce a studio-wide calendar! This calendar has general events and important dates.

If your dancer is a part of the, Performance Team/Troupe, Apprentice, Production, or Disney; separate calendars have been made.  Please email us if you need those links.

To access the Studio Calendar and add it to your phone, please click here!

5. Elf on the Shelf

Diamond Joy is back at the studio! Follow our social media Instagram or Facebook to follow her adventures!

6. Boots & Slippers

Cold and bitter weather is on the horizon whether we like it or not. Please remember to take off your mucky boots when entering the studio and place them on a shoe rack, not just the mat (we don’t want anyone to trip!). We understand feet get cold in the winter and bringing slippers with you to the studio might be a good solution to keep your toes toasty if you are waiting in the reception area during your dancer’s class.

7. Important Account and Tuition Information

January Tuition is posted on 12/10 and due by 12/20!

Please note that all accounts need to be up-to-date by December 20th in order for your costume to be ordered. If your account is not up-to-date at that time, there will be a fee of $10 per costume fee to cover the additional cost of placing the dancer’s order separately. Ordering late will also run the risk of not receiving the costume in time for Picture Week, or potentially Recital. Many costumes are made to order, which is why we need to order so early. Please e-mail [email protected] with any questions or concerns.

8. Stage-Ready Investment-Everyone in performances

The 3rd Installment of fees will be due on 12/15. To review the information please click here!

9. PJ Week & French Lollipop Test 12/13-12/19

The last week of classes, December 13th-19th, before the break is PJ week! Dancers are welcome to wear their favorite pair of PJs to class all this week. Please make sure you are able to dance in your PJs or wear your dance clothes underneath.

From December 13th- 19th, Ballet dancers ages 5 and up will have their French Lollipop test.  The French Lollipop test is designed to test the ballet knowledge they have been working towards all year so far.  Even though Ballet originated in Italy in the 15th century, it was developed further in France, where it adopted French terminology. Dancers are tested on both the technique and terminology of what they have learned in ballet so far.  This is a really fun “test” and nothing to stress over! If a dancer forgets a step, they can always ask a friend(or a teacher!) to help.

10. Teacher & Staff Stockings

Teacher and Staff stockings are up! There is paper nearby with pens to write some holiday cheer or leave small gifts for your teachers if you wish. We love having personal notes from all of our dancers for the holidays!

11. Holiday Break 12/20-1/1

As a reminder, the studio will be closed for the holiday break from December 20th to January 1st Classes resume on Tuesday, January 2nd!

12. Lost and Found

We have many items left in the cubbies and hanging up. Please take a look through these items before we close for the break. Any items that remain will be donated.

13. Need a gift for the Holidays?

Have family & friends give the gift of dance this holiday season! Giving the gift of dance is a wonderful present from grandparents, aunts or uncles, or even family friends! Dance gift certificates are perfect for new OR already enrolled Joy of Dance students and we would be happy to make one for you. Email us at [email protected] for your gift certificate!

2. Our Waiting Area is a Quiet Lobby that opens at 3:40 pm

We love the community that builds in our waiting room! We also recognize that can cause the lobby to get a little loud at times. That noise is starting to spill into the studios and affect the concentration in our classrooms.

We are asking for your help to make our lobby a “Quiet Lobby”.  To accomplish this, anyone using a device in the lobby will either need to keep the sound off or bring headphones to use.

If you are bringing siblings into the lobby to wait during class, please make sure to bring an activity with you! In order to keep everyone safe, we need to make sure there is no running (toddlers who can’t run fast are fine!). If your child has a hard time sitting still while in the lobby, we recommend waiting in the car or leaving them at home if at all possible.

For our afternoon classes, the waiting areas will be open starting at 3:40 pm. This will allow our front desk staff plenty of time to get the waiting areas and studios ready for the night!

11. Try Everything Special 11/27-12/2!- Everyone

During this week, students can sign up for a free class in a new style! For our Dance With Me and Tiny Stars dancers who are not already signed up twice per week, this is your chance to try a second class per week.  This helps to build confidence, and strength, plus meet new friends! Follow the same steps and let us know what day they can attend!

The studio will be closed from April 22nd-April 28th. Classes will resume on Saturday, April 29th!

2. Class Recommendations & Fall Schedule

Class recommendations will be released Monday, April 3rd.  For those who are renewing your membership, we will send out a Google Form for you to let us know what classes you would like to take next year. Please return the form by Sunday April 23rd.  If you are not returning at this time, we have included your recommendations as well in case you decided to return to dance at a later date.  We expect to release the 2023-2024 schedule by the end of May.

Class recommendations roughly follow the age of the dancer, but experience and other factors do affect placements as well.  All of our teachers have put a lot of thought into the best placements for our students to grow the best.  Please encourage constructive conversations and discourage any negative discussions you may hear from your dancers about where other dancers have been placed.  At Joy of Dance, we focus on positivity and growth and you can help to aid this focus by encouraging constructive conversations.

There are a lot of factors that go into class placements, and our teachers have years of training and education to determine the best placements for all our dancers.  As our dancers are constantly changing and growing, we are also constantly reassessing our dancers and therefore will let you know if recommendations change by the end of the year or the beginning of the next year.  You will have an opportunity to schedule a virtual placement meeting for the dancer and 1 parent to attend to discuss any concerns as well. Thank you for your help and understanding on this matter!

3. Parent Appreciation Week! April 14th-April 21st

We want to celebrate all the hardworking parents who are a part of the Joy of Dance Family! During classes from 4/8-4/14 please come into the studio to get some goodies as a thank you for being an important part of our community.

4. Share Week and Practice Videos

Share week: 4/15-4/21

April Share Week Schedule

Share week will be in person! Parents and students of other classes will be able to watch in the studio this year.

How to read the schedule: search for your dancers class by the day of the week they attend. Each class has a specific time they will share and what studio they will share in. All dancers should attend class at their regularly scheduled class time during share week. All classes share during their regularly scheduled class time.

Example: Tiny Stars Thursday will share at 6pm in the Teal Studio.

All the teachers also videotape this week and videos get uploaded into google classroom. This means parents can sit back and enjoy the performances the dancers are putting on for them!

5. Important message about sharing videos and photos to Social Media

Dancers love to perform and we urge you to come into the studio to watch! As we start to work on our recital pieces, we wanted to send a few notes about posting to social media.

When posting a video from class on social media, please make sure it’s only your child, or you have permission if any other child is in the video.

We LOVE to see pictures of our dancers having fun both inside and outside of class, so please tag us when posting on Facebook and/or Instagram (@joyofdancenh).  However, we respectfully ask you do not post any FULL videos of choreography you take during class or at any performances(partial clips are great!).  This is because rehearsal videos are meant for practice purposes only and are not performance-ready for the public to see.  We also want people to be surprised at Recital!

We will be sharing small snippets of pieces on our FaceBook page and encourage you to share those with friends and family. After Recital, we are happy to see videos you have taken of dances posted to social media.  In fact, we encourage it!  We just ask that you please tag us in your posts so people know where you dance and how to find us.  Thank you for your understanding on this!

4. Annual Membership Renewal coming up!

What is Annual membership?

The Annual Membership renewal is coming up next month for those who know they are returning next dance season to secure their spot early. It is designed to help make the enrollment process as easy as possible for our dance families. In the past, classes have filled up quickly when registration opened, (some as quickly as 2 hours after registration opens!). Having the knowledge of how many dancers are wishing to continue with their training helps us to accommodate enough space in the levels for all of our dancers.

The Annual Membership fee is posted on 3/20 and due on 3/25.

If you are not planning on returning next dance season or if you are unsure as of now, you will need to opt-out before 3/15 by filling out a form that we will send later this month.  For those opting out now, you can always re-register later if you change your mind!

We will be releasing detailed information later this month, stay tuned!

5. Share Week and Practice Videos

Share week: March 6th- March 11th

Even though our share week isn’t until March, we wanted to get these dates out so families can put it in their calendars! We take the time to share dances with our parents, and with the other classes being held at the same time. This helps the dancers get used to having an audience and get excited about the progress they’ve made so far with their Recital pieces!

All the teachers also videotape this week and videos get uploaded into google classroom. This means parents can sit back and enjoy the performances the dancers are putting on for them!

Looking to practice? Just log in to your google classroom to listen to the music and see the practice videos. Music and practice videos will start being added before February Break!

Is your dancer in more than one class? Each class has its own google classroom, and videos can be easily and conveniently downloaded to help students practice.

Access Google Classroom Information Here!

6. Important Message About Posting Dances to Social Media

Dancers love to perform and we urge you to come into the studio to watch! As we start to work on our recital pieces, we wanted to send a few notes about posting to social media. When posting a video from class on social media, please make sure it’s only your child, or you have permission if any other child is in the video. 7. Recital planning is underway!

Our Spring Recital is only a few months away!

Our Recital will be on June 10th at Dover High School! Stay tuned for more detailed information later this month!

After such a wonderful time on stage at our Winter Showcase, We are really looking forward to seeing our dancers shine again on stage at our big Spring Recital! We love all the buzz that’s been happening from Winter Showcase to get everyone even more excited for the next stage performance.

Now shifting our focus to Recital helps our dancers to gain confidence by working towards hitting an even big goal. It also inspires dancers to do their best and helps them understand what it takes to be a part of a team.  It is a special day that will hold special memories for everyone involved!

 8. Costumes

Costumes arrive between February and April!

-*Costumes are tried on during class time so they get to practice in them.

-All costume pieces should stay in the provided garment bag in order to be kept clean and wrinkle-free until picture week.

*Please note, the costume company sends out costumes as soon as they arrive in their warehouse, so not every dancer will get to try on their costume at the same time. For our younger dancers, we will have some dress-up items to wear if their costume is not in, so everyone feels included!

This year, shipping dates have been unpredictable.  We may need to get creative if dates are pushed back or some costumes become unavailable.  This may mean that a class might not have a cohesive look to them this year. Remember, everything is adaptable and we will make sure to get our dancers on stage and looking fabulous!

9. Student Choreography Showcase

Any dancers ages 8 and older are invited to audition for the Showcase on March 18th at 3:30 pm.  Choreography for the Showcase is a great responsibility!  We audition dancers to make sure they are taking it seriously and are prepared with all the steps completed on or before the audition date.  There is a $40 fee per person per dance that covers the audition and performance fees.

Please fill out the form below and an approval or denial email will be sent out within 24-48 business hours. https://forms.gle/GeEon4WhRDZ8mco37

The approval Deadline is 2/15/2023.

Choreography pieces MUST be fully completed at the time of the audition in order to be considered for the Showcase.  If you are not able to attend the auditions, you will have to schedule a time BEFORE that date to audition separately.

10. Inclement Weather

The snow season has started, and we want to remind everyone how to know about any inclement weather cancellations. Generally, if schools are closed, the studio will be closed as well.

In the case of closure, we will:

*Make a decision 2 hours before classes start (in case of condition changes) or by 7:30 am on a Saturday

*Send out an email

*Send a push notification on our app

If it’s more than 2 hours before classes begin, please wait to get in touch with us. Sometimes conditions change throughout the day so we like to make sure we have the most up-to-date information before making a call. We promise we will reach out!

Please note, per our policies, Joy of Dance is not responsible for cancellations due to bad weather, however, students are always welcome to make up any missed classes at another time!  Simply send us an email or text to pre schedule the makeup so we don’t have too many makeups on the same night.

Have a fabulous February!

7. Winter Boots & Slippers

Cold and bitter weather is on the horizon whether we like it or not. Please remember to take off your mucky boots when entering the studio and place them on a shoe rack, not just the mat (we don’t want anyone to trip!). Just imagine how happy your family will be to receive beautiful photos of your dancer for the holidays. Well,  we can help with that! There’s still time to book a session for our Winter Photo Day.

2 simple steps to book!

1. Book a time here→ https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showSignUp/60b0448aaad2ba5f58-winter

-Book a time slot for each dancer. For families with more than one dancer, please book a spot for each dancer taking pictures.  No additional spot is needed if you plan to do a sibling picture.

-If taking pictures with family or friends, please secure the same time slot.

-If you wish to take pictures in more than one costume/outfit, please book a second time slot in a different 15min period to allow time to change.

2. Fill out the order form→ https://forms.gle/fCvSpSi8ngybuSFBA

Only one form per family is needed

We do expect the time slots to fill up, so make sure to book early!

For these photos, dancers may wear whatever they wish! We recommend your favorite dance outfit or even a fun holiday outfit if you wish. Remember your dance shoes!

We will take close up pictures, and full-body dance pictures plus add in some fun winter props like snowflakes, large ornaments, candy canes, plus a snowball fight!

There will not be any sitting or booking fee for these pictures.  Simply book a time, pick your package, and enjoy your photos! Dancers may even bring siblings and choose the single photo option to take a picture together.  It’s ok if the sibling doesn’t dance, they are welcome to come anyway!

Times are set up in 15 min blocks with up to 5 dancers per slot.

 3. Inclement Weather Reminder

As we are approaching snow season, we want to remind everyone how to know about any inclement weather cancellations. Generally, if schools are closed, the studio will be closed as well.

In the case of closure, we will:

*Make a decision 2 hours before classes start (in case conditions change) or by 7:30 am on a Saturday

*Send out an e-mail

*Send a push notification on our app

If it’s more than 2 hours before classes begin, please wait to get in touch with us. Sometimes condition change throughout the day so we like to make sure we have the most up-to-date information before making a call. We promise we will reach out!

Please note, per our policies, Joy of Dance is not responsible for cancellations due to bad weather, however, students are always welcome to make up any missed classes at another time!  Simply send us an email or text to preschedule the makeup so we don’t have too many makeups on the same night.

4. Elf on the Shelf

Diamond Joy is back at the studio! Follow our social media Instagram or Facebook to follow her adventures!

6. Important Account and Tuition Information

January Tuition is posted on 12/10 and due by 12/20!

Please note that all accounts need to be up-to-date by December 20th in order for your costume to be ordered. If your account is not up-to-date at that time, there will be an extra $10 per costume fee to cover the extra cost of placing the dancer’s order separately. Ordering late will also run the risk of not receiving the costume in time for Picture Week, or potentially Recital. Many costumes are made to order, which is why we need to order so early. Please e-mail [email protected] with any questions or concerns.

7. PJ Week & French Lollipop Test

The last week of classes, December 13th-19th, before the break is PJ week! Dancers are welcome to wear their favorite pair of PJs to class all this week. Please make sure you are able to dance in your PJs or wear your dance clothes underneath.

From December 13th- 19th, Ballet dancers age 5 and up will have their French Lollipop test.

 8. Teacher & Staff Stockings

Teacher and Staff stockings are up! There is paper nearby with pens to write some holiday cheer or leave small gifts for your teachers. We love having personal notes from all of our dancers for the holidays!

9. Holiday Break 12/20-1/1

As a reminder, the studio will be closed for the holiday break from December 20th to January 1st Classes resume on Monday, January 2nd!

10. Lost and Found

We have many items left in the cubbies and hanging up. Please take a look through these items before we close for the break. Any items that remain will be donated.

12. Is your dance sick? They can take class from home!

If your dancer is not able to attend class live, he or she is welcome to join us in our Virtual Studio! We have installed technology in the studios to allow for an enhanced experience as well as to maintain much-needed peer socialization. This is perfect if you have a cold or need to stay at home for any reason. Please save the link below for future use!
