Inclement Weather

As we are approaching snow season, we want to remind everyone how to know about any inclement weather cancellations. Most of the time if school is closed, the studio will be closed as well. In case of closure, we will post to Facebook and send out an e-mail roughly 2 hours before the start of class. Please wait to contact us until that 2 hour mark has pasted.  Sometimes things can change in the evenings, so we like to wait until closer to class time to make the call!

Please note, per our policies, Joy of Dance is not responsible for cancellations due to bad weather, however, students are always welcome to make up any missed classes at another time.  Just send us an email to set up a makeup date so we don’t have too many makeups on the same night. (see make up policy below).

Free Trial Week *SPECIAL ALERT!*

October 12th begins our free trial week! Free trial week is for current dancers to try new classes and for new dancers to check us out as well. Makeup Classes:

As stated in our attendance policies, if a dancer misses a class for any reason, he or she is welcome to make up that class at a different time. It is much easier to make up classes in the fall as we have not started our Recital pieces yet. Classes for ages 3- to 7-year-olds have an opposite class on a different day that you may attend. If there is not an opposite class, another class offered closest to your age group can be taken instead. Please call or text 603-664-4309 or email info@joyofdancenh.com the office to set up your makeup class.

Boots & Slippers

Cold and bitter weather is on the horizon whether we like it or not. Please remember to take off your mucky boots when entering the studio. We understand feet get cold in the winter so it’s a great idea to bring a pair of slippers with you for our Tiny Stars parents who are waiting in the lobby while their dancer is in class.

Thank you!

Newsletter Graphics.jpgEmail

Email is how we communicate all of our important messages to you.  To ensure you are receiving our emails, please add jackrabbittech.com to your safe list. You can also view all our sent messages through your portal when you log in. We recommend checking there if you find you haven’t been receiving bi-weekly emails from us.

Newsletter Graphics-7.jpgDo I Need To Wait In The Reception Area?

Due to the current nature of COVID-19, our lobby is closed to parents and families as it is being used as a waiting area for our dancers. Parents of our Tiny Stars dancers are asked to remain in the lobby to assist with needs for that age group.  As we are using the lobby as a waiting area, we must keep it open and are unable to keep chairs set up.  You are welcome to bring your own camp chairs with you if you wish.

If you need to come in to speak to someone in the office, please give us a heads up to let us know you will be entering the building.

Due to the ages of our youngest dancers, we are allowing one parents to wait in the lobby while class is happening, just in case they need some extra help.

Please review the attached file: Tiny Stars Parents.pdf

Newsletter Graphics-8.jpgAre You Paying Tuition By Check?

If you are paying tuition by check, please send it via mail or call us to find out when we will be at the studio this week!

Monthly tuition is due in full by the 25th of the preceding month, and accounts not paid in full after the 1st of the month will have their balance charged to the card on file. Accounts with balances after the 1st of the month will have a $10 late fee added to their account. If a balance has not been paid by the 15th of the month, the dancer will no be able to participate in class until the account is up to date. This policy helps us to focus less time on collecting payments and more time on giving our dancers the best possible dance experience!

Calendar.jpgMissed Classes and Makeups

If you know ahead of time that you are going to be absent from class, we would love an e-mail or a text so we won’t worry. Missed classes can be made up with office permission anytime until the end of May, and even proactively when there is advance notice. You can keep track of absences through your parent portal.

Please make sure to schedule your makeup class ahead of time. With new restrictions we need to amke sure we do not have too many peple in class at once.  If the class you are making up in is a full class, you may join that class in our Virtual Studio.

Newsletter Graphics-3.jpgDress Code

If you need any items for class, we can get you fitted! Just email or text to schedule a fitting time.

For questions about appropriate/required class attire, please refer to the Dress Code section of the Handbook. Please refer to this guide frequently.

0255132e295dc9b42a0e09f77250a9f5.jpgCostumes Fees:

Believe it or not, it is coming up on the time to order costumes! We order costumes in late De ember in order to ensure that ur favorite picks will be in stock and delivered in time for Picture Day in May.  A 50% deposit is due Ocotber 25th and the remainder is due November 25th.

Cotumes fees are $74 per class and include 1 pair of tights per dancer for each color. The exception is for Shooting Stars and Dance ADventures (see bloew)

Shooting Stars and Dance Adventures Costumes

Costume companies are doing things differently for the combo-costumes this year.  Previously the prices have been all inclusive of pieces in the combo classes, however they have changed that and are charging each piece separarly.  Therefore the 2-in-1 cosutmes are a bit more than a single costume but less than 2 separate costumes.

Dance Adventures

$120 for both styles (ballet and jazz, 1 pair of tights)

Shooting Stars

$74 for one style

$120 for 2 styles

$148 for three styles

Car.jpgParking

Our parking lot can be a little tricky to maneuver. When entering, please veer to the right. You can park in front of the building, on the side near the trees, and around back. When leaving, please follow the arrows and make a loop around the building. It is a one way parking lot. This will help with the flow of traffic, especially during high volume hours. Please make sure to watch this video before dropping off your dancer so that they go into the correct door!

Studio Tour Video

If you are new to Joy of Dance, it might be helpful to sit down with your dancer and check out our Studio Tour video located on the “About” tab of our website.

-The Joy of Dance Staff

This is an important newsletter with information about the rest of our dance year!

May/June Tuition

As stated in our policies, tuition is calculated by taking the number of weeks in the dance year for an annual rate, then dividing that into equal monthly payments September-April with a one and a half payment for May/June.   Our last day of classes will be on Saturday, June 6th!

Bonus Classes- We understand the nerves of having to perform a piece after months of not being in class. Therefore, we are gifting our dancers with two weeks of bonus classes before the September Recital dates to prepare for an amazing show at no additional charge. These bonus classes will be from Friday, August 28th to Thursday, September 10th. It’s our hope that as school is back in session, this will not interfere with any family vacation time. We know that downtime will be especially important this summer! We will also be running dances at the end of summer dance classes for those who will be training over the summer.

Recital Info

Are you wishing Recital was right around the corner just like we are!? We want to remind our families to “Power Up” as we navigate the next few months. We are all working hard to get recital ready, and we can’t wait to see all of our dancer’s hard work onstage in September!

We are looking at holding Recital on September 12th and 13th, when it is hopefully safe to again gather in large groups as well as not interfering with any summer vacation plans. It’s our hope that we will be able to be on stage at our usual recital location by this time. We are also looking at adjusting recital placements to encourage smaller audience numbers and lessen crowding backstage.

It is more important than ever for dancers to keep attending classes through June 6th. This is not only to keep their bodies moving and in shape, but also to be the most prepared for a September Recital date.

*No matter where our location is, we will have streaming available for our grandparents and compromised friends who are not able to attend. We are hoping to do this live, if internet connection allows us to do so, in order to share the joy of dance with all our family and friends.

Alternate performance venues- In the event that crowds are still restricted come September, we are looking at having Recital outside! Our surrounding towns have many great outdoor venues that we are looking into for a possible alternative recital venue.

With the bonus classes, there will not be dress/tech rehearsals before Recital. We feel it is more beneficial for dancers to have more class time leading up to Recital to practice!

Performance Team and Hip Hop Troupe Interest Meeting

Being on a Performance Team and/or Hip Hop Troupe gives dancers more opportunities throughout the year to perform. They learn to rehearse more effectively and efficiently while working together as a team. They inspire and push one another to amazing new heights and show better technique over the course of the season due to hard work and extra practices. We offer Performance Teams for dancers starting at age 5 and Hip Hop Troupes for dancers starting at age 9.

Have questions about our teams/troupes? Wondering what the extra benefits of these classes hold?

Join us Monday, May 18th at 7:00 pm for all the answers you are looking for! This meeting is for dancers and parents who are new to our teams and troupes.  Dancers are encouraged to attend as well, but not required if schedule doesn’t allow for it. Current team/troupe parents need not attend.

If you can’t make the meeting, let us know and we can send you the recording.  We’d be happy to answer any questions at another time as well.

Closed for Memorial Day weekend!

We will be closed 5/23-5/25 in observance of Memorial Day.

Summer Dance!

6-week Summer Dance Sessions

Can’t go 3 months without dance? Neither can we! Registration for our 6-week Summer Dance sessions will be opening soon!   We will be offering new classes this summer for beginners through advanced dancers for ages 1.5 to Adult!

There is no membership fee for Summer Dance classes. Tuition is due upon registration in order to hold your spot in the class. You may choose to pay a non-refundable $25 deposit to hold your spot. Please indicate in the comments section if this is your choice. If no comment is left, you will be charged the full tuition amount at the time of registration.

As we do not know yet about opening guidelines, we are planning for virtual classes and switching to in-person classes if/when we are able.

Summer Camps

We do have our summer camps currently open for registrations.  You may register at this time without payments due.  In the next few weeks, we will be sending out information about virtual summer camps in case there are still limitations around in-person classes and also for those who may be immunocompromised or unsure about attending live.

Referral Program

We offer a referral program!  We love to hear when you recommend our studio to friends and family members.  It is greatly appreciated and we want to reward you for it! Make sure to let your friend or family know to write your name in the referral box upon registration.  Once the dancer has been in class for three months, we will apply the $25 credit to BOTH accounts as a thank you.  Credits will be applied for new family accounts, not for individual dancers.

Crazy Hair Week!

The last week of classes is Crazy Hair Week! Dancers can come to class with fun and funky hairdos.  Please make sure hair is still properly secured and pulled out of the dancer’s face.  We are excited to see what our dancers will come up with!

Joy of Dance NH On-Line Instruction Disclaimers

By entering class, I agree to the following disclaimers

The Joy of Dance NH On-Line broadcast instruction is intended only for our students.  No recording or rebroadcast of instructional sessions or materials is allowed.  Unlike in-studio instruction, personal supervision of students participating in dance by Joy of Dance NH personnel is impossible, and the responsibility for safe surroundings and safe practices during participation is that of the student, or the student’s parents or guardians, and Joy of Dance NH takes no responsibility for injury which might occur during sessions which are not supervised by it.

Spring Break

The studio will be OPEN during the scheduled Spring Break from April 25th- May 1st. This will make up for the lost class time in March.

Recital

Our 2019-2020 Recital is still scheduled for June 6th & 7th. We will continue to monitor the ever-changing situation and update you if any changes occur.  You can head over to the Recital tab of our website to view various important details about the big day!

  May/June Tuition Reminder

Just a reminder that yearly tuition is calculated per the average number of weeks in the year then divided into 9.5 payments. This makes paying monthly easier than calculating a different amount each month as “one month” isn’t always 4 weeks of classes. If you have not already, please reach out to us to let us know right away if you have any concerns involving payment.

Class Recommendations & Fall Schedule

We have pushed back the recommendations release date to April 10th to space things out a little for you at this time.  For those who are renewing membership, we will send out a Google Form for you to let us know what classes you would like to take next year. Please return the form by April 20th.  If you are not returning at this time, we have included your recommendations as well in case you decided to return to dance at a later date.  We expect to release the 2020-2021 schedule by the end of May.

Class recommendations roughly follow the age of the dancer, but experience and other factors do affect placements as well.  All of our teachers have put a lot of thought into the best placements for our students to grow the best.  Please encourage constructive conversations and discourage any negative discussions you may hear from your dancers about where other dancers have been placed.  At Joy of Dance, we focus on positivity and growth and you can help to aid this focus by encouraging constructive conversations.

There are a lot of factors that go into class placements, and our teachers have years of training and education to determine the best placements for all our dancers.  As our dancers are constantly changing and growing, we are also constantly reassessing our dancers, and therefore will let you know if recommendations change by the end of the year or the beginning of the next year.  You will have an opportunity to schedule a placement meeting through zoom for dancer and parent to attend to discuss any concerns as well. Thank you for your help and understanding on this matter!

Recital Makeup Kits

A little worried about applying stage makeup on your young dancer at Recital? We are happy to offer Recital makeup kits for our youngest dancers ages 3-8! Kits include eyeshadow in warm taupe and champagne shimmer, liner in burgundy plum, sweet pink cheek color, long-lasting raspberry lip color, and a double-sided application brush. An instruction packet and a video tutorial link are also included and will retail for $36. Please email Maddi at info@joyofdancenh.com by MARCH 15TH if you are interested in purchasing one.

*For our first-year parents- you are probably thinking, “Makeup?! Why does my child need to wear makeup?” We’re so glad you asked! Dancers wear make-up on stage to enhance their facial features, which can be washed out under the harsh stage lights.  Younger dancers just need a little bit of light makeup applied to counteract the stage lights. A little eye shadow, mascara, blush, and pink lipstick will help your dancer shine even more on stage! It does help to practice ahead of time if you think it might bother him or her.

Costume Day

Would you like to get a sneak peek at all of the costumes? Come to the studio Saturday, March 14th from 9:00am-12:00pm, to help us unpack and prepare the costumes to be handed to the dancers during their classes. You do not need any garment knowledge, just the willingness to lend a helping hand!

Practice, Practice, Practice!

To view choreography videos to help your dancer practice at home, download the Band App in the App store.  After, you can use this Choreography Link to connect to our profile.  Dances have been placed in albums according to the day of the week they meet. Download Recital Music 2020 here.

Parent Appreciation Week

We appreciate all of our families for being a support system for our dancers! Be sure to stop in the studio during our Parent Appreciation Week: March 25th-31st for some treats on us! This is a treat for you, something you don’t have to share with your kids for once!

  • Monday-Friday: 4pm-6pm
  • Wednesday and Friday morning: 9:30-10:45
  • Saturday: 9am-12pm

Recital Prep Is In Full Swing!!

There are A LOT of moving parts that go along with putting on a recital.  We will be sending out a separate Recital Newsletter shortly with important information regarding your dancer’s big day(s)! Remember, all Recital information sheets will be posted to the recital tab on our website as soon as it becomes available as well as information for all events.

Costume Item List & Tights

The Costume Item list for Recital is now posted under the Recital tab on the website. This is where you will find how the dancers need to wear their hair, what kind of tights and shoes they need and anything else related to costumes for Recital. One pair of each style tights per dancer is included in the costume fee. These will be handed out this month.

IMPORTANT- Please check the sizing chart on the packaging before opening your tights. We will be happy to make any sizing exchanges needed, however, tights are not exchangeable once they are opened.

Costumes are still arriving until the end of April, so if you haven’t received yours yet, don’t worry!

 Student Choreography Showcase

Any dancer ages 8 and older are invited on Saturday, March 21st at 12:30 pm to audition for the Student Choreography Showcase.  Choreography for the Showcase is a great responsibility!  We audition dancers to make sure they are taking it seriously and are prepared with all the steps completed on or before the audition date. There is a $10 audition fee per dancer and a sign-up sheet is on Miss Lindsey’s desk at the studio. Choreography pieces MUST be fully completed at the time of the audition in order to be considered for the Showcase.  More information on this can be found on the Recital tab on our website. If the dancer has completed all steps on or before March 16th and makes it into the Showcase, there is a fee of $30 per dancer per dance to cover the cost of auditioning and running the Showcase ($10 audition fee & $20 performance fee). Audience members do not need to buy tickets for the Showcase. We look forward to a wonderful show!

March Performances

We have been working so hard on our upcoming performance pieces and we would LOVE to see some familiar faces in the audience. Showcases like these help younger dancers understand the values of dancing on stage, the promotion of community and the importance of supporting one another!

We will be closed for Winter Break from February 22nd to February 28th. Classes will resume on February 29th.

Annual Membership

The annual membership is your membership fee for the next dance season. We are currently finalizing new information about the upcoming dance season and will be sending out a separate email with a google form that will need to be completed by March 15th. Please keep an eye out this week for that email. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via email at info@joyofdancenh.com or call us at (603) 397-5391.

Student Choreography Showcase

There is still space for any dancer ages 8 and older to audition for the Showcase on Saturday, March 21st at 1:00 pm. If the dancer has completed all steps on or before March 16th and makes it into the Showcase, there is a performance fee of $20 per dancer per dance to cover the cost of running the Showcase. Audience members do not need to buy tickets for the Showcase.

Interested in Apprenticing?

Dancers who will be 12 by the end of the year next year who might be interested in apprenticing for the 2020-2021 dance year (if your dancer will not be 12 yet, you can ignore this section).  Attached is a list of expectations and an article about what is expected in class and how to best help your teacher. Please print out a copy for yourself and a signed copy to hand to the front desk.

Attachment: Apprentice Guidelines 2020.pdf (195.6kB)

Current apprentices will need to let me know if they would like to keep their same classes by the end of March.

Dancers who are interested in joining the apprentice program will need to let me know what age group they would be most interested in apprenticing and if there are any days they are unavailable to apprentice. This year we will be having dancers interested in joining the program attend a class to observe and take note of what might be expected of them. I will set this up sometime by the beginning of May.

Available classes are first given to current apprentices. From there, we offer them to our dancers by age and then to those who are available for the classes that are still open. We do take into account dependability and commitment to dance as well. Except for Shooting Stars Ballet/Tap, dancers must be studying the dance form they wish to apprentice for.

Hip Hop Sneakers

This is a reminder that you have until this Friday, 2/21, to let us know if you would like to place an order for hip hop sneakers. This will be the last order we make before the recital. The cost is $55. Please email info@joyofdancenh.com with your child’s name, street shoe size, and payment preference. We can add this to your card on file or you may pay with cash or check at the studio.

Handicap Parking

Please make sure to only be using the two handicap spots out front if you have a handicap parking tag. We have seen a few cars sitting there waiting for dancers in class and we would like to make sure to leave those spots open for those who need them. Don’t forget about the additional parking out back.

Happy February!

Winter break

We will be closed for Winter Break from February 22nd to February 28th. Classes will resume on February 29th.

We will be open for President’s Day February 17th!

Annual Membership

What is annual membership?

The annual membership is your membership fee for the next dance season. It is designed to help make the enrollment process as easy as possible for our dance families. In the past, classes have filled up quickly when registration opened, some as quickly as 2 hours after registration opens! Having the knowledge of how many dancers are wishing to continue with their training helps us to accommodate enough space in the levels for all of our dancers.

Share Week and Practice Videos

The last week of classes is a fun week at the studio! We take the time to share dances with our parents and with the other classes being held at the same time.  This helps the dancers get used to having an audience and to get excited about the progress they’ve made so far with their Recital pieces.  All the teachers also videotape this week in order to send out for practicing over break and beyond.  This means parents can sit back and enjoy the performances the dancers are putting on for them! To view choreography videos, download the Band App in the App store.  After, you can use this Choreography Link to connect to our profile.  Dances will be placed in albums according to the day of the week they meet. Download Recital Music 2020 here.

Important Message About Posting Dances to Social Media

We LOVE to see pictures of our dancers having fun both inside outside of class, so please tag us when posting on FaceBook(@joyofdancenh) or Instagram(joyofdancenh).  However, we respectfully ask you not to post any full videos of choreography you take during class or at any performances until after Recital takes place.  This is because rehearsal videos are meant for practice purposes only and are not performance ready for the public to see.  We also want people to be surprised at Recital!  After Recital, we are happy to see any videos you have taken of dances posted to social media.  In fact, we encourage it!  We just ask that you please tag us in your posts so people know where you dance and how to find us.  Thank you for your understanding on this!

Receiving Costumes & Tights

We are getting so excited for Recital now that costumes are starting to be delivered. Please note that we will be handing them out once we receive ALL for each class but some costumes will be shipping at a later date due to warehouse stocking. No need to worry if your costume hasn’t arrived in the near future. We promise all costumes have been ordered and have shipping dates.

Remember, one pair of tights per style per dancer is included in the costume fee. Important– tights are sized differently than costumes. WE have guessed on tight sizes, so you will need to check the size chart for the height and the weight of the dancer to determine the correct size. Please do this BEFORE you open the tights. We are unable to exchange an open pair of tights for a different size.

Bathroom breaks

We want to make sure our dancers are getting the most out of their time while at Joy of Dance, so please remind them to use the bathroom before leaving home or when arriving at the studio!

Bring Your Sweetheart to Dance Class

What a better way to celebrate the month of love than by sharing your fun in class with a special someone! From February 8th – 14th, dancers are encouraged to bring one family member or loved one with them to participate in class. Please make sure to wear something comfortable to move in and get ready to make some special memories!

Older dancers can use this time to use our studios, work on technique and hang out with friends. Siblings of dancers are welcome to attend as well. If you wish to bring your own snacks/drinks/cups, please label everything with the dancer’s name and leave any peanut/tree nut products at home.

  • When: Friday, February 14th, 2020

  • Register HERE!

Speaking of Events…

We would love to see some of our Joy of Dance family come out to support our dancers in their upcoming performances.  It’s a great time cheering on your fellow dancers, supporting a good cause and also getting to see many other talented dancers from surrounding studios perform.  There are two opportunities next month,  Dancing to Make A Difference on March 7th and Dance Northeast on March 14th. The Events page has more detailed information for you.

Recital is June 6th and 7th!!!

With some input from dancers and staff, our Recital theme is now called “Power Up”! Our Production dancers have been hard at work on their video game inspired choreography and can’t wait to share the opening number at Recital. Mark your calendars for June 6th & 7th if you haven’t already! We will be sending out information on tights, shoes, hair, and accessories in the near future.

Student Choreography Showcase

Any dancer ages 8 and older are invited on Saturday, March 21st at 1:00 pm to audition for the Showcase. If the dancer has completed all steps on or before March 16th and makes it into the Showcase, there is a performance fee of $20 per dancer per dance to cover the cost of running the Showcase. Audience members do not need to buy tickets for the Showcase.

Illness Policy

As winter season is in full swing, we are seeing more and more kids coming in with illnesses of varying degrees and types. We would like to take a moment and go over our policy for illness with you so we can help keep our studio and dancers as healthy as possible this school year.

Please make sure anyone coming to the studio either to attend classes or sit in the reception area, are free of the following symptoms for at least 24 hours WITHOUT medications before returning to class:
*Vomiting
*Diarrhea
*Fever
*Green Mucous
*Productive Cough

Remember that any class missed due to illness is able to be made up by attending either the same level or a level below for your child’s age range in any style they choose.

Thank you for helping to keep our dancers healthy!

Happy New Year Joy of Dancers! Classes resume tomorrow, 1/2!

Recital Date Reminder

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Recital weekend at Dover High School  June 6th & 7th, with tech rehearsals during the week. Times for tech rehearsals are currently TBD. It feels far away now, but it will be here before we know it!

Speaking of Recital, we will be starting choreography for our recital dances this month!  At this time, we ask that our dance parents speak to their dancers about the importance of making a commitment to their classmates to finish out the dance year.  Formations are specific to each number of dancers in the piece and can be hard to re-do if a dancer decides not to continue.  Dance is a team sport and everyone depends on each other in order to put on a great show! Thanks so much for your understanding and help with this!

Don’t forget, we will be open on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 2oth.

Important Message About Posting Dances to Social Media

Parents, please note that we share dances during the last class of each month. Dancers love to perform and we urge you to come into the studio to watch! As we start to work on our recital pieces, we wanted to send a note about posting to social media.  We LOVE to see pictures of our dancers having fun both inside outside of class, so please tag us when posting on Facebook and/or Instagram (@joyofdancenh).  However, we respectfully ask you not to post any FULL videos of choreography you take during class or at any performances(partial clips are great!).  This is because rehearsal videos are meant for practice purposes only and are not performance ready for the public to see.  We also want people to be surprised at Recital! We will be sharing small snippets of pieces on our FaceBook page and encourage you to shares those with friends and family. After Recital, we are happy to see videos you have taken of dances posted to social media.  In fact, we encourage it!  We just ask that you please tag us in your posts so people know where you dance and how to find us.  Thank you for your understanding on this!

Happy New Year!

The JoD Staff

Closings

If you are ever unsure when we are open/closed for holidays and breaks, please make sure to check in the Parents and Students Handbook and also on the events page of our website. It’s always a good idea to add those dates to your phone calendar as well! Weather-related closings will be sent out through an e-mail, posted to our Facebook page, as well as on the “Cancellations” page under the About tab.

Boots & Slippers

Cold and bitter weather is on the horizon whether we like it or not. Please remember to take off your mucky boots when entering the studio and place them on a shoe rack, not just the mat (we don’t want anyone to trip!). We understand feet get cold in the winter and bringing slippers with you to the studio might be a good solution to keep your toes toasty while you wait in the reception area during your dancer’s class.

10.jpgLost and Found & Water Bottle Graveyard Is Overflowing!

With the colder weather upon us, it is always advised that you come to class with layers to remove once you start dancing. Because of this, our lost and found pile is overflowing along with our water bottle graveyard. Please have your child check both areas next time they are at the studio to claim their lost items.  We will be donating any items left at the studio over the winter break.

Important Account Information

Please note that all accounts need to be up-to-date by December 10th in order for your costume to be ordered. If your account is not up-to-date at that time, there will be an extra $10 per costume fee to cover the extra cost of placing the dancer’s order separately. Ordering late will also run the risk of not receiving the costume in time for Picture Day or potentially Recital. Many costumes are made to order, which is why we need to order so early! Please e-mail info@joyofdancenh.com with any questions or concerns.

Acts of Kindness: Food Drive

We have extended our food drive for the Lee Church Congregational & The Barrington Food Pantry through the first week of December. Please bring any canned item(s) to help out the community in need. For every item brought in, you can enter to win a Joy of Dance reusable grocery tote! Please see the front desk receptionist to fill out your tickets. Drawing will now be held 12/9!

5 for $5 New Student Special

Do you have a friend who you think would love to join our dance family? Let them know about a special we are offering now!  With fall sports ending, why not try new dance classes! Simply purchase a voucher for just $5 and you will be able to attend as many classes as you would like for 5 consecutive days. There are only 40 vouchers available, so don’t wait to tell your friends to contact the office via email or phone to receive theirs today.  Don’t forget to tell them about our referral program!  When they put you name down at registration, you with BOTH receive a $25 account credit after 3 months.

December Wingman Activities

In our December dance classes, we are discussing what it means to go above and beyond for others and to be grateful. Their Wingman activity this month involves an “act of service” which enhances the understanding of gratitude and humility, and provides you with a surprise gift! We hope the dancers are willing to share the discussions they have taken part in this month around this activity. How you can help: Discussions at home that include the idea that going above and beyond for others can happen at any time of the year, not just during holidays, will help enforce positive behavior and gratitude all year round. Questions like, “what are you grateful for?” and “how did you show you were grateful today?” will help your dancer learn the importance of expressing appreciation and developing humility and gratitude. Next April our studio will be investing in our community with give-back events, and over the coming months, we would like to start collecting ideas for ways the dancers can be of service. These two websites are just an example that contains activities children can get involved within the community to spark discussion with your dancer:

List of volunteering opportunities for teens by city

List of volunteering opportunities for kids

List of ways kids from toddlers to teens can volunteer

Holiday Break and PJ Week!

As a reminder, the studio will be closed for the holiday break from December 19th to January 1st. We are open Thursday, January 2nd. The last week of classes, December 12th-18th, before the break is PJ week! Dancers are welcome to wear their favorite pair of PJs to class all this week. Please make sure you are able to dance in your PJs or wear your dance clothes underneath.

French Lollipop Test

From December 12th- 18th(except Wednesday Shooting Stars who will have theirs on 12/11!), Ballet dancers age 5 and up will have their French Lollipop test.  The French Lollipop test is designed to test the ballet knowledge they have been working towards all year so far.  Even though Ballet originated in Italy in the 15th century, it was developed further in France, where it adopted French terminology. Dancers are tested on both the technique and terminology of what they have learned in ballet so far.  This is a really fun “test” and nothing to stress over! If a dancer forgets a step, they can always ask a friend(or a teacher!) to help.

2019 Annual Sleepover

The Joy of Dance Sleepover will be February 1st! Dancers will learn a combo, share recital pieces, play dance games and have lots of fun! We provide pizza, snacks, and drinks. Drop off will be 5:15-5: 30 pm and pick up 7:45 am. Any dancer in classes for ages 8 and older can sign up. The cost is $30 per dancer and $20 for each additional dancer in the family. Space is limited and the fee must be paid when you sign up. Register Here!

Need a gift for the Holidays?

Have family & friends give the gift of dance this holiday season! Giving the gift of dance is a wonderful present from grandparents, aunts or uncles, or even family friends! Dance gift certificates are perfect for new OR already enrolled Joy of Dance students and we would be happy to make one for you. Email us at info@joyofdancenh.com for your gift certificate!

Student Choreography Showcase

For dancers 8 years old and up, the signup sheet for our Student Choreography Showcase is at the studio. There are only 3 months left until the audition, so it’s best to get started soon! The information sheet on the Showcase will be listed on the Recital page of our website soon.

Have a fabulous holiday season!!!

Hello to both our new and returning families! We look forward to welcoming all the new students into the Joy of Dance family and reuniting with our returning students when classes start on Saturday, September 7th.

I know this seems like a long newsletter, but it’s only about 3 minutes to read through quickly because of all the helpful headlines!

A couple of important notes as classes start:

This is the best reference for any questions you might have.  If you are unable to find the answer to your question after looking through the Handbook, feel free to contact us at info@joyofdancenh.com and we would be happy to assist you.

Newsletter Graphics.jpgEmail

Email is how we communicate all of our important messages to you.  To ensure you are receiving our emails, please add jackrabbittech.com to your safe list. You can also view all our sent messages through your portal when you log in. We recommend checking there if you find you haven’t been receiving monthly emails from us.

Newsletter Graphics-7.jpgDo I Need To Wait In The Reception Area?

We ask parents/guardians of students under the age of 6 to please wait in the reception area during their child’s class. This is to ensure if any accident or problem arises, the student will have a caretaker there immediately.  Parents of children ages 6-9 should let their child know if they will be leaving the studio during class time to make sure he or she is comfortable with that.

Important.jpgALL Parents Need To Enter The Studio The First Week Of Classes

Please review a provided hardcopy of our Agreement Policies that you signed off on when you registered and take a copy for your records. After you have read them, print and sign your name on the provided spreadsheets in the studio located on the office desk wall. This is to ensure all families have acknowledged our policies and will abide by them. They can also be found any time on our website!

Newsletter Graphics-8.jpgAre You Paying Tuition By Check?

If you are paying September’s tuition by check, please send it via mail this week or call us to find out when we will be at the studio this week! As payments are collected by the 10th of the month, we want to make sure everyone is accounted for since we won’t see many of you until after Setpmebr 10th when a late fee will be assed on all accounts with a balance.

Calendar.jpgMissed Classes and Makeups

If you know ahead of time that you are going to be absent from class, we would love an e-mail so we won’t worry. Missed classes can be made up with office permission anytime until the end of May, and even proactively when there is advance notice. You can keep track of absences through your parent portal.

Newsletter Graphics-9.jpgPerfect Attendance Update

Starting this year will no longer be implementing perfect attendance. We have received feedback from our families that their time is limited and it’s not always easy to make it to the same class on a different day. We also do not want to add stress to those who are sick or have prior family obligations. Dancers are still encouraged to make up missed classes to prevent falling behind in technique and choreography. There will still be many other ways dancers can be recognized throughout the year!

Newsletter Graphics-3.jpgDress Code

For questions about appropriate/required class attire, please refer to the Dress Code section of the Handbook. Please refer to this guide frequently.

Newsletter Graphics-4.jpgWater Bottles

Water bottles should be considered part of your dancer’s dress code to ensure hydration throughout the class. Please make sure students come to class prepared!

Private lessons are available to any student who would like extra work outside of regular classes. Please contact info@joyofdancenh.com with any questions.

Family Movie Night

Among all the fun and exciting things that will be happening during the first month back, we are going to be hosting an outdoor movie night at the studio on September 20th at 6:45pm! The movie is TDB, but rest assured it will be fantastic! Please arrive between 6:15pm & 6:30pm to set up chairs and blankets, and don’t forget to bring snacks and bug spray. This is a great way for the dancers and their families to spend some quality time together outside of the studio walls!

Car.jpgParking

Our parking lot can be a little tricky to maneuver. When entering, please veer to the right. You can park in front of the building, on the side near the trees, and around back. If you are new to Joy of Dance, it might be helpful to sit down with your dancer and check out our Studio Tour video located on the “About” tab of our website. Click here: https://joyofdancenh.com/mission-statement-history/.
